كِتَابُ التَّفْسِيرِ
Book of Tafsir (Quranic Exegesis)
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: {وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا وَصِيَّةً لأَزْوَاجِهِمْ مَتَاعًا إِلَى الْحَوْلِ غَيْرَ إِخْرَاجٍ}
His saying, Exalted is He: {And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind—they, [the wives], shall wait four months and ten [days].}
Hadith Number: 415
نا هشيم ، قال: نا جويبر ، عن الضحاك ، في قوله عز وجل: والذين يتوفون منكم ويذرون ازواجا وصية لازواجهم متاعا إلى الحول غير إخراج سورة البقرة آية 240، قال:" كان الرجل إذا مات انفق على امراته حولا، ثم يقسم اهل الميراث ميراثهم، فنزلت: والذين يتوفون منكم ويذرون ازواجا يتربصن بانفسهن اربعة اشهر وعشرا سورة البقرة آية 234، ثم نسخ من الاربعة اشهر والعشر: واولات الاحمال اجلهن ان يضعن حملهن سورة الطلاق آية 4 إذا وضعن فيما دون ذلك" .
Dhahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) says that previously, when a person passed away, his wife would be provided for during a whole year, then the heirs would distribute the inheritance. Then this verse was revealed: ﴿And those of you who die and leave wives behind, a bequest to their wives of maintenance for a year without being turned out﴾, then this ruling was abrogated and this verse was revealed: ﴿And those of you who die and leave wives behind, they shall wait by themselves for four months and ten days﴾, then regarding this ruling of four months and ten days, this verse was revealed: ﴿And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burden﴾, meaning if they give birth before that, their waiting period is completed.

Hadith Number: 416
نا نا هشيم ، قال: نا يونس ، عن ابن سيرين ، عن ابن عباس ، انه قرا هذه الآية: " والذين يتوفون منكم ويذرون ازواجا وصية لازواجهم متاعا إلى الحول سورة البقرة آية 240، قال: قد نسخ هذا" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) recited this verse: "And those of you who die and leave wives behind, a bequest to their wives of maintenance for a year" (__QUR_N__), then said: This ruling has been abrogated.
