Hadith Number: 739
Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When a judge accepts a gift, he eats usury, and when he accepts a bribe, he reaches the limit of disbelief.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Taking a bribe in judgment is disbelief, and in transactions among people, it is suht, that is, unlawful wealth.

Masruq (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) about suht, that is, unlawful wealth, whether it is the bribe given in judgment? So he replied: No, ﴿And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then they are the disbelievers﴾, ﴿the wrongdoers﴾, and ﴿the defiantly disobedient﴾—these are separate verses. But suht is that a person seeks your help in some injustice, and gives you a gift, and you accept it; so this is suht.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) distributed some wealth, and he called a person to calculate it. Someone said: If you would give him something as well? He replied: If he wishes, he may take it, but it will be suht, that is, unlawful (haram) wealth.

Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked taking wages for distributing wealth and used to say: People used to say that taking a bribe for making a judgment is severe, that is, forbidden, and I do not see any such judgment for which taking a bribe would be permissible.
Hadith Number: 744
Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked giving wealth to someone with a condition, but if a person distributes and gives something to someone without a condition, he did not consider there to be any harm in it.

Hadith Number: 745
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Taking a bribe in judgment is suht, that is, unlawful wealth. Likewise, the dowry of an immoral woman, the price of a dog, monkey, pig, alcohol, carrion, blood, the fee for mating a male animal, the wages of a mourner and a singer, a soothsayer, a magician, and a genealogist who joins lineages, the skins of predatory animals, the price of the skin of carrion—however, if the leather is purified by tanning, then there is no harm in it—the wages for making images of statues, a gift given on the basis of intercession, and a reward for retrieving a drowned person, all are included in suht.
