Chapter on the grandfather
Hadith Number: 48
نا إسماعيل بن إبراهيم ، قال: نا ايوب ، عن عكرمة ، قال: اما الذي قال رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم: " لو كنت متخذا من هذه الامة خليلا لاتخذت ابا بكر , فإنه قضاه ابا".
It is narrated from Ikrimah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I were to take anyone as a close friend (khalil) in this Ummah, I would have taken Abu Bakr; thus, it is as if you have given him the status of a father."

Hadith Number: 49
نا نا سفيان، عن عمرو، عن عطاء، عن ابن عباس ، قال: " الجد اب"، وقرا: واتبعت ملة آبائي إبراهيم وإسحاق ويعقوب سورة يوسف آية 38 .
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "A grandfather is (like) a father." And he recited this verse: ﴿وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ﴾ "And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."

Hadith Number: 50
نا نا هشيم، قال: انا حجاج، عن عطاء، عن ابن عباس ، انه كان يقول: " من شاء لاعنته عند الحجر الاسود ان الله عز وجل لم يذكر في القرآن جدا ولا جدة إن هم إلا الآباء , ثم تلا: واتبعت ملة آبائي إبراهيم وإسحاق ويعقوب سورة يوسف آية 38" .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "Whoever wishes, I will do Mubahala with him at the Hajar Aswad that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has not mentioned grandfather and grandmother in the Qur'an, rather He has called all of them 'fathers' (ābā’).”Then he recited this verse: ﴿وَاتَّبَعْتُ مِلَّةَ آبَائِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ﴾“And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Hadith Number: 51
نا نا هشيم، قال: انا جويبر، عن الضحاك، عن ابن عباس ، قال: جاءه رجل يساله عن الجد، فقال: ما اسمك؟ فقال: فلان، قال: ابن من؟ قال: ابن فلان، قال: ابن من؟ قال: ابن فلان، فقال:" ما اراك تعد إلا آباء" ثم تلا هذه الآية: واتبعت ملة آبائي إبراهيم وإسحاق ويعقوب سورة يوسف آية 38. قال:" فبدا بجديه قبل ابيه" .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to him and asked about the grandfather. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked him about his lineage. When he continued to mention up to three generations, he said: "You are only counting fathers." Then he recited this verse: __QUR_N__ "And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." __QUR_N__ And he said: "Allah has given precedence to the grandfather over the parents."

Hadith Number: 52
نا نا هشيم، قال: انا سليمان الاعمش، قال: نا عمران بن الحارث السلمي، قال:" جاء رجل إلى ابن عباس ، فساله عن الجد , فقال: ما اسمك؟ قال: فلان. قال: ابن من؟ قال: ابن فلان. قال: ابن من؟ قال: ابن فلان. قال: ما اراك تعد إلا آباء" .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to him and asked about the grandfather. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) asked about his lineage and said: "You are only counting the fathers."
