بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي عِدَّةِ أُمِّ الْوَلَدِ
Chapter: What is reported regarding the waiting period of Umm al-Walad (mother of a child)
Hadith Number: 1292
حماد بن زيد ثنا، عن داود بن ابي هند، عن سعيد بن المسيب، في عدة ام الولد إذا مات عنها سيدها، قال:" اربعة اشهر وعشرا" .
Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When the owner of an umm walad passes away, her waiting period (‘iddah) is four months and ten days.

Hadith Number: 1293
نا هشيم، قال: انا يونس، عن حميد الطويل، انهما سمعا الحسن، يقول: " اربعة اشهر وعشرا" .
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The waiting period (‘iddah) is four months and ten days.

Hadith Number: 1294
نا هشيم، قال: انا منصور، وابو حرة , عن الحسن، انه قال في آخر امره: " تعتد بحيضة واحدة، فإن اعتقها سيدها فثلاثة اشهر" .
Hasan al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, used to say at the end of his life: If the master sets her free, then the waiting period is three months. And if he does not set her free, then it is one menstrual cycle.

Hadith Number: 1295
نا هشيم، قال: انا عبد الملك، عن عطاء، انه سئل عن ذلك، فقال: " منهم من يقول: ثلاثة اشهر، ومنهم من يقول: اربعة اشهر وعشرا" .
It was asked to Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him), so he said: Some people say three months. And some say four months and ten days.

Hadith Number: 1296
نا هشيم، قال: انا سيار، عن الشعبي، قال: " قيل له اتعتد ام الولد إذا توفي عنها سيدها اربعة اشهر وعشرا؟ قال: افلا تورثونها إذا" .
Hazrat Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked whether the 'iddah of an umm walad is four months and ten days. He replied: Then why do you not give her inheritance as well?

Hadith Number: 1297
نا سفيان، عن عبد الكريم بن ابي امية، عن إبراهيم، قال: " لا يستبرا فرج الحرة ما قل من ثلاثة حيض" .
Ibrahim Nakha'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The womb of a free woman becomes clear (of a previous marriage) after three menstrual cycles. Not in less than that.

Hadith Number: 1298
نا نا يزيد بن هارون، عن الحجاج، عن الحكم، ان عليا رضي الله عنه , قال في الامة إذا اعتقت:" تعتد ثلاث حيض" .
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When a slave woman is freed, she should observe a waiting period of three menstrual cycles.

Hadith Number: 1299
نا عتاب بن بشير، قال: نا خصيف، عن عطاء، قال: " إذا اعتق الرجل ام ولده او جارية كان يطاها فعدتها ثلاث حيض" .
Hazrat Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) says: If a person frees his umm walad or his slave woman with whom he used to have intercourse, then her waiting period (‘iddah) will be three menstrual cycles.
