المُقَدِّمَةُ
Introduction
باب الاعتصام بالسنة وما يتعلق بها نقلا وأمرا وزجرا - ذكر البيان بأن النواهي سبيلها الحتم والإيجاب إلا أن تقوم الدلالة على ندبيتها-
Chapter: Holding fast to the Sunnah – Clarification that prohibitions are binding unless evidence shows they are recommendations.
Hadith Number: 19
حدثنا عمر بن محمد الهمداني ، حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري ، حدثنا إسماعيل بن ابي اويس ، حدثني مالك ، عن ابي الزناد، عن الاعرج ، عن ابي هريرة ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال:" إنما اهلك من كان قبلكم سؤالهم واختلافهم على انبيائهم، فإذا نهيتكم عن شيء، فاجتنبوه، وامرتكم بامر، فاتوا منه ما استطعتم" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):
“Indeed, the people before you were destroyed because of asking unnecessary questions from their prophets and differing with them. So when I forbid you from something, then avoid it, and when I command you to do something, then do it as much as you are able.”

اخبرنا محمد بن الحسن بن قتيبة ، قال: حدثنا ابن ابي السري ، قال: حدثنا عبد الرزاق ، قال: اخبرنا معمر ، عن همام بن منبه ، قال: هذا ما حدثنا ابو هريرة ، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " ما نهيتكم عن شيء، فاجتنبوه، وما امرتكم بالامر، فاتوا منه ما استطعتم" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“When I forbid you from something, then avoid it, and when I command you to do something, do it as much as you are able.”

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Leave me as I leave you regarding a matter; for indeed, those before you were destroyed only because of their excessive questioning of their prophets and their disagreements with them.
So when I forbid you from something, avoid it, and when I command you to do something, do of it as much as you are able."
