Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said,“O Messenger of Allah! My father used to maintain ties of kinship, he used to do this deed and that deed.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Your father was seeking something and he attained it,”(the narrator says) meaning fame. Sayyiduna ‘Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said,“O Messenger of Allah! I want to ask you about such food which I sometimes leave out of caution?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Do not leave anything in which Christianity has participated.”Sayyiduna ‘Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said,“I release my dog and then it catches a prey, but I do not find anything with which to slaughter it, except a knife or a stick.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Spill the blood with whatever you wish and mention the name of Allah (and then eat the prey).”
