Chapter on Parents’ Rights – Description of honoring parents after their death.
Hadith Number: 418
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا حبان ، قال: انبانا عبد الله ، عن عبد الرحمن بن سليمان ، عن اسيد بن علي بن عبيد الساعدي ، عن ابيه ، عن ابي اسيد ، قال: اتى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، رجل من بني سلمة، وانا عنده، فقال: يا رسول الله، إن ابوي قد هلكا، فهل بقي لي بعد موتهما من برهما شيء؟ قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" نعم، الصلاة عليهما، والاستغفار لهما، وإنفاذ عهودهما من بعدهما، وإكرام صديقهما، وصلة رحمهما التي لا رحم لك إلا من قبلهما"، قال الرجل: ما اكثر هذا، يا رسول الله، واطيبه!، قال:" فاعمل به" .
Sayyiduna Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the tribe of Banu Salamah came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while I was present with the Prophet (peace be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah! My parents have passed away. Is there any way to do good to them after their death? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Yes! Pray for mercy for them, pray for their forgiveness, and fulfill the promises they made after them. Honor their friends, take care of the rights of their relatives—those relatives with whom your relationship exists only because of them. That man said: O Messenger of Allah! How excellent and wonderful this is. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Act upon this.
