Chapter on Parents’ Rights – Preferring to honor one’s mother over one’s father.
Hadith Number: 433
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن بشار الرمادي ، قال: حدثنا سفيان ، عن عمارة بن القعقاع ، عن ابي زرعة ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: يا رسول الله، من احق الناس بحسن الصحبة؟ قال:" امك"، قال: ثم من؟ قال:" امك"، قال: ثم من؟ قال:" ابوك"، قال: فيرون ان للام ثلثي البر .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He asked: O Messenger of Allah! Who is most deserving of good treatment? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your mother. He asked: Then who? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your mother. He asked: Then who? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your father. The narrator says: The scholars are of the opinion that two-thirds of good treatment should be given to the mother.
