Chapter on Companionship and Sitting – Recommendation to inform a Muslim brother of one’s love for him for Allah’s sake
Hadith Number: 569
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، قال: حدثنا الازرق بن علي ابو الجهم ، قال: حدثنا حسان بن إبراهيم ، قال: حدثنا زهير بن محمد ، عن عبيد الله بن عمر ، وموسى بن عقبة ، عن نافع ، قال: سمعت ابن عمر ، يقول: بينا انا جالس عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذ اتاه رجل فسلم عليه، ثم ولى عنه، فقلت: يا رسول الله إني لاحب هذا لله، قال:" فهل اعلمته ذاك؟" قلت: لا، قال:" فاعلم ذاك اخاك"، قال: فاتبعته فادركته فاخذت بمنكبه فسلمت عليه، وقلت: والله إني لاحبك لله، قال هو: والله إني لاحبك لله قلت: لولا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، امرني ان اعلمك لم افعل" تفرد بهذا الحديث الازرق بن علي، قاله الشيخ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once I was sitting with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). During that time, a man came to you. He greeted you with salam and then left from there. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I love this person for the sake of Allah Almighty. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Have you told him this? I replied: No. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tell this to your brother. The narrator says: I went after that person. I caught up with him. I held him by the shoulder. I greeted him with salam and said: By Allah! I love you for the sake of Allah. He also said: By Allah! I also love you for the sake of Allah Almighty. I told him: If the Prophet of Allah had not commanded me to tell you this, I would not have done so. In narrating this tradition, the narrator named Azraq bin Ali is unique, and this has been stated by the Shaykh.
