Section on Responding to Sneezing – Clarification that one with a cold should be blessed after the first sneeze, then excused after that
Hadith Number: 603
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا ابو الوليد الطيالسي ، قال: حدثنا عكرمة بن عمار ، قال: حدثني إياس بن سلمة بن الاكوع ، قال: حدثني ابي ، قال: كنت قاعدا عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فعطس رجل، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" يرحمك الله" ثم عطس اخرى، فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم:" الرجل مزكوم" .
Iyas bin Salamah bin Akwa narrates: My father narrated this hadith to me. Once I was sitting with the Prophet (peace be upon him). A man sneezed, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on you." Then he sneezed a second time, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "This man has a cold."
