Chapter on Ghusl – Clarification that ghusl is only required for a woman after a wet dream if there is discharge, not just the dream itself
Hadith Number: 1167
اخبرنا عمر بن سعيد بن سنان ، قال: اخبرنا احمد بن ابي بكر ، عن مالك ، عن هشام بن عروة ، عن ابيه ، عن زينب بنت ام سلمة ، عن ام سلمة ، انها قالت: جاءت ام سليم امراة ابي طلحة إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقالت: يا رسول الله، إن الله لا يستحيي من الحق، هل على المراة من غسل إذا هي احتلمت؟ قال:" نعم، إذا رات الماء" .
Lady Umm Salamah’s (may Allah be pleased with her) daughter, Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates this statement from her mother, Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): Lady Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), who is the wife of Sayyiduna Abu Talha Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, Allah does not shy away from the truth. If a woman experiences a wet dream, is ghusl (ritual bath) obligatory upon her? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, if she sees water (i.e., if her semen is discharged).
