Chapter on Skins of Dead Animals – Report on permission to benefit from the skins of animals lawful to eat if tanned, even if dead
Hadith Number: 1289
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، حدثنا سفيان ، عن الزهري ، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله ، عن ابن عباس ، عن ميمونة ، قال: مر النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، بشاة ميتة، فقال: " الا اخذوا إهابها، فدبغوه فانتفعوا به؟ فقالوا: إنها ميتة، فقال: إنما حرم اكلها" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) passed by a dead goat and said: Why did the people not take its skin, tan it, and benefit from it? The people said: It is dead. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Its consumption has been declared unlawful.
