Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The tanning of the hide of a dead animal makes it pure."

Abdullah bin Malik narrates from his mother, Sayyidah Aliah bint Subai’ (may Allah be pleased with her): My goats were near the mountain of Uhud. One of them died. I went to Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) and mentioned this to her. Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to me: Take its skin and benefit from it. The woman narrates (I asked): Is this permissible? Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: Yes. Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people of Quraysh who were dragging their goat as a donkey is dragged. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Why do you not take its skin? The people said: It is dead. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Water and the leaves of qaradh will purify it.
