Chapter on Adhan - Description of the iqamah as performed in the Prophet’s time.
Hadith Number: 1674
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن بشار ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر ، قال: حدثنا شعبة ، قال: سمعت ابا جعفر ، يحدث عن مسلم ابي المثنى ، عن ابن عمر ، قال:" إنما كان الاذان على عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مرتين، والإقامة مرة، غير انه يقول: قد قامت الصلاة، قد قامت الصلاة، فإذا سمعنا الإقامة توضانا، ثم جئنا إلى الصلاة" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the words of the adhan were said twice and the iqamah was said once, however, «قد قامت الصلوۃ» was said twice. When we heard the iqamah, we would perform ablution and come for the prayer.

Hadith Number: 1675
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن كثير العبدي ، قال: انبانا شعبة ، عن ايوب ، عن ابي قلابة ، عن انس ، قال:" امر بلال ان يشفع الاذان، ويوتر الإقامة" . قال ابو حاتم رضي الله عنه: ما روى هذا عن ابن كثير من حديث شعبة ثقة، غير محمد بن ايوب الرازي، وابي خليفة.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) was commanded to say the words of the adhan in even numbers and the words of the iqamah in odd numbers. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) None of the trustworthy narrators have transmitted this narration from Shu’bah except Muhammad bin Ayyub Razi and Abu Khalifah, as referenced by Ibn Kathir.
