Chapter on the Obligation to Follow the Imam – Clarification that the Prophet Ordered the Man to Repeat Because He Was Not Connected to the Congregation
Hadith Number: 2200
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، قال: حدثنا زكريا بن يحيى ، قال: حدثنا هشيم ، عن حصين ، عن هلال بن يساف ، قال: اخذ بيدي زياد بن ابي الجعد ، ونحن بالرقة، فاقامني على شيخ من بني اسد، يقال له: وابصة بن معبد ، قال: حدثني هذا الشيخ:" ان رجلا صلى خلف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وحده، لم يتصل باحد، فامره ان يعيد الصلاة" . قال ابو حاتم رضي الله عنه: سمع هذا الخبر هلال بن يساف، عن عمرو بن راشد، عن وابصة بن معبد، وسمعه من زياد بن ابي الجعد، عن وابصة، والطريقان جميعا محفوظان.
Hilal bin Yasaf narrates: Ziyad bin Abu Ja’d took my hand while we were in "Riqah." He brought me to an elderly man from the tribe of Banu Asad. His name was Sayyiduna Wabisah bin Ma’bad. Ziyad said that this elder had narrated this hadith to me. A man performed prayer behind the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) standing alone; he did not stand with anyone else (in the row), so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ordered him to repeat the prayer. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration was heard by Hilal bin Yasaf from Amr bin Rashid, from Wabisah bin Ma’bad. And he (Wabisah) narrated it from Ziyad, from Sayyiduna Wabisah (may Allah be pleased with him). So both chains of transmission are preserved.
