Section on voluntary prayers – clarification that the Prophet performed these rak’ahs at home, not in the mosque
Hadith Number: 2475
اخبرنا محمد بن علي الصيرفي ، قال: حدثنا ابو كامل الجحدري ، قال: حدثنا يزيد بن زريع ، قال: حدثنا خالد الحذاء ، عن عبد الله بن شقيق ، قال: سالت عائشة عن صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقالت:" كان يصلي اربعا قبل الظهر، ثم يخرج فيصلي، ثم يرجع فيصلي ركعتين، ثم يخرج إلى المغرب، ثم يرجع فيصلي ركعتين، ثم يخرج إلى العشاء، ثم يرجع فيصلي ركعتين، ثم يصلي من الليل تسعا"، قال: فقلت: قاعدا او قائما؟ قالت:" يصلي ليلا طويلا قائما"، قلت: فإذا قرا قائما؟ قالت:" إذا قرا قائما ركع قائما، وإذا قرا قاعدا ركع قاعدا، ثم يصلي قبل الفجر ركعتين" .
Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrates: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him): She said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to perform four rak‘ahs before Zuhr, then he would go and perform the (obligatory) prayer. Then he would return and perform two rak‘ahs, then he would go for the Maghrib prayer, then he would return and perform two rak‘ahs. Then he would go for the ‘Isha prayer, then he would return and perform two rak‘ahs. Then at night he used to perform nine rak‘ahs. I asked: Did he perform these sitting or standing? Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: At night he used to perform long prayers standing. I asked: When he recited standing (how did he perform ruku‘)? Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: When he recited standing, he would go into ruku‘ standing, and when he recited sitting, he would perform ruku‘ sitting. After that, he would perform two rak‘ahs (sunnah) before Fajr.

Hadith Number: 2476
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: اخبرنا مسدد بن مسرهد ، قال: حدثنا إسماعيل ، قال: حدثنا ايوب ، عن نافع ، قال: كان ابن عمر " يطيل الصلاة قبل الجمعة، ويصلي بعدها ركعتين في بيته" ، ويحدث ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يفعل ذلك".
Nafi' reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform a lengthy prayer before Jumu'ah, and after it he would perform two rak'ahs in his house, and he used to state that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.
