The Dying Person - Command for those present to ask Allah's forgiveness for the dying
Hadith Number: 3005
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن كثير العبدي ، قال: اخبرنا سفيان الثوري ، عن الاعمش ، عن ابي وائل ، عن ام سلمة ، قالت: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " إذا حضرتم الميت، فقولوا خيرا، فإن الملائكة تؤمن على ما تقولون"، قالت: فلما مات ابو سلمة، قلت: يا رسول الله، ما اقول؟ قال:" قولي: اللهم اغفر له، واعقبنا عقبى صالحة"، قالت: فاعقبني الله محمدا صلى الله عليه وسلم .
Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you go to a deceased person, say good words, because whatever you say, the angels say Ameen to it. Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When (my former husband) Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What should I recite now? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You should say: "O Allah! Forgive him and grant us a better substitute in his place." Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: So Allah Almighty granted me, in his place, Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as a husband.
