Section on visiting graves – Instruction to visit graves as it reminds of death
Hadith Number: 3169
اخبرنا عمران بن موسى بن مجاشع ، قال: حدثنا عثمان بن ابي شيبة ، قال: حدثنا يعلى بن عبيد ، قال: حدثنا يزيد بن كيسان ، عن ابي حازم ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: زار النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قبر امه، فبكى وابكى من حوله، ثم قال: " استاذنت ربي ان ازور قبرها فاذن لي، فاستاذنته ان استغفر لها، فلم ياذن لي، فزوروا القبور فإنها تذكركم الموت" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) visited his mother's grave. He (peace be upon him) wept, and those around him also made others weep. Then he (peace be upon him) said: I sought permission from my Lord to visit her grave, and He granted me permission. I asked Him for permission to seek forgiveness for her, but He did not grant me permission. You people should visit graves, for they remind you of death.
