Chapter on Hajj and Umrah on Behalf of Others – On Permitting a Person to Have Hajj Performed for Him While Alive If He Is Too Old to Ride and Hajj Is Obligatory
Hadith Number: 3995
اخبرنا ابو خليفة ، قال: قال حدثنا القعنبي ، قال: حدثنا ليث بن سعد ، عن ابن شهاب ، عن سليمان بن يسار ، عن ابن عباس ، ان امراة من خثعم، قالت: يا رسول الله، إن فريضة الله في الحج ادركت ابي شيخا كبيرا، لا يستطيع ان يستوي على راحلته، فهل اقضي عنه، او احج عنه؟، فقال لها رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" نعم" .
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A woman from the tribe of Khath'am said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Allah has made Hajj obligatory, and it has become incumbent upon my elderly father who is unable to sit firmly on a mount. Should I perform it on his behalf (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) should I perform Hajj on his behalf? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to the woman: Yes.
