Chapter: The dowry – Disapproval of excessive dowries between husband and wife
Hadith Number: 4094
اخبرنا عمران بن موسى السختياني بجرجان، حدثنا ابو معمر القطيعي إسماعيل بن إبراهيم ، حدثنا مروان بن معاوية الفزاري، حدثنا يزيد بن كيسان ، عن ابي حازم ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: جاء رجل إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: إني تزوجت امراة، فقال: " كم اصدقتها؟"، فقال: اربع اواق، فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم:" اربع اواق، كانما تنحتون الفضة من عرض هذا الجبل" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I have married a woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: How much dowry did you give her? He replied: Four uqiyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Four uqiyah is as if you have searched for silver equal to the width of this mountain.
