Hadith Number: 5519
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، قال: حدثنا احمد بن آدم الجرجاني غندر ، قال: حدثنا عمرو بن حماد بن طلحة ، قال: حدثنا اسباط ، عن سماك ، عن عكرمة ، عن ابن عباس ، قال: جاءت فارة، فاخذت تجر الفتيلة، فذهبت الجارية تزجرها، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" دعيها، قال: فجاءت بها، فالقتها بين يدي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم على الخمرة التي كان عليها قاعدا، فاحرقت منها مثل موضع درهم، فقال صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذا نمتم، فاطفئوا سرجكم، فإن الشيطان يدل مثل هذه على هذا فتحرقكم" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A mouse came and started pulling the wick (of the lamp). A maid tried to chase it away, but the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Let it be. That mouse brought the wick and placed it on the mat in front of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on which he was sitting. Because of it, a portion of the mat the size of a dirham was burnt. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When you go to sleep, extinguish the lamps, because Satan guides such (animals) to do such things, so they burn you.
