On the reason for this action being prescribed
Hadith Number: 5546
اخبرنا الصوفي ، قال: حدثنا علي بن الجعد ، قال: اخبرنا زهير بن معاوية ، عن ابي إسحاق ، عن فروة بن نوفل ، عن ابيه ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: هل لك في ربيبة لنا، فتكفلها زينب؟ قال: ثم جاء، فساله النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: تركتها عند امها، قال: فمجيء ما جاء بك؟ قال: جئت لتعملني شيئا اقوله عند منامي، قال: " اقرا قل يا ايها الكافرون، ثم نم على خاتمتها، فإنها براءة من الشرك" .
Furwah bin Nawfal narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked: "Are you interested in our stepdaughter Zainab? Take care of her." The narrator states: Then he came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked him, and he replied, "I have left her with her mother." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "Then why have you come?" He said, "I have come so that you may teach me something which I can recite at night." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Recite Surah Al-Kafirun and after reciting it, go to sleep. This Surah is a declaration of freedom from shirk (polytheism)."
