Sahih Ibn Hibban
كِتَابُ إِخْبَارِهِ ﷺ عَنْ مَنَاقِبِ الصَّحَابَةِ رِجَالِهِمْ وَنِسَائِهِمْ بِذِكْرِ أَسْمَائِهِمْ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Book of the Prophet’s ﷺ Reports on the Virtues of the Companions, Men and Women, by Name
ذكر السبب الذي من أجله سمي أبو بكر رضي الله عنه عتيقا-
Hadith Number: 6864
اخبرنا إبراهيم بن ابي امية الطرسوسي ، وعمر بن سعيد بن سنان ، قالا: حدثنا حامد بن يحيى ، حدثنا سفيان ، عن زياد بن سعد ، عن عامر بن عبد الله بن الزبير ، عن ابيه ، قال: كان اسم ابي بكر عبد الله بن عثمان، فقال له النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: " انت عتيق الله من النار" ، فسمي عتيقا.
Aamir bin Abdullah bin Zubair narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair, may Allah be pleased with them both): The name of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abdullah bin Uthman. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You are a person freed from Hell by Allah Almighty." Because of this, he was named Atiq (i.e., the freed one).
