Sahih Ibn Hibban
كِتَابُ إِخْبَارِهِ ﷺ عَنْ مَنَاقِبِ الصَّحَابَةِ رِجَالِهِمْ وَنِسَائِهِمْ بِذِكْرِ أَسْمَائِهِمْ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Book of the Prophet’s ﷺ Reports on the Virtues of the Companions, Men and Women, by Name
باب فضل الأمة - ذكر وصف ما ابتلى الله جل وعلا هذه الأمة بما دفع عنهم به تعجيل العذاب في الدنيا-
Hadith Number: 7220
اخبرنا احمد بن علي بن المثنى ، قال: حدثنا ابو خيثمة ، قال: حدثنا سفيان ، قال: سمع عمرو ، جابرا ، قال: لما انزل على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: قل هو القادر على ان يبعث عليكم عذابا من فوقكم، قال:" اعوذ بوجهك"، او من تحت ارجلكم، قال:" اعوذ بوجهك"، او يلبسكم شيعا ويذيق بعضكم باس بعض، قال:" هاتان اهون او ايسر" .
The narrator named Sufyan reports: Amr heard Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate that when this verse was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "Say: He has power to send punishment upon you from above you," the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I seek refuge in Your Being." (The command of Allah, the Exalted, is:) "Or from beneath your feet." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I seek refuge in Your Being." (The command of Allah, the Exalted, is:) "Or to confuse you in parties and make you taste the violence of one another." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These two things are lighter and easier."
