Zahdam al-Jarmi narrates: We were present with Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him). Chicken meat was brought there, and a man withdrew. He did not take part in eating. Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) invited him, so he said: I have seen it eating filth, therefore I consider it impure. Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have seen the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) eating it.

Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We went to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him for a riding animal. Some white-humped camels were presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We said: O Messenger of Allah! Please give us for riding. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) swore that he would not give us an animal for riding. Then some other camels were presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We said: O Messenger of Allah! Please give us for our riding. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave us for riding. When we returned from there, we thought, what have we done? Did we not draw the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) attention to his oath? Then we went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this matter to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Whenever I take an oath and then consider something else better than it, I will do what is better and will offer expiation for my oath.

Shu’bah says: I was with Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari’s son, Sayyiduna Abu Burdah, in the room at the back of his house. He called his children and said: O my children! Come forward so that I may narrate to you the hadith which I heard my father narrate from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): I heard my father say, he said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Whoever frees a neck (i.e., a slave man or woman), Allah Almighty will free every limb of his in exchange for every limb of that (slave man or woman) from the Hellfire.

The son of Salih bin Hayy narrates: A man came to Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him), and I was present with him at that time. He said: O Abu Amr! In Khurasan, among us, there are some people who believe that if a person, after freeing his slave-girl, then marries her, he is like a person who rides his sacrificial animal. So Imam Sha’bi (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Three people will have a double reward. A person from the People of the Book who believed in his Prophet before the advent of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and then he also believed in Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so he will have a double reward. A person who has a slave-girl, educates and trains her well, then frees her and marries her. And a slave who obeys the commands of Allah Almighty and also fulfills the rights of his master, so he will have a double reward.(Imam Sha’bi said): You obtain it without any compensation, whereas previously a person would travel all the way to Madinah Munawwarah for a narration of lesser content than this.
