حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا الزهري ، عن سنان بن ابي سنان ، عن ابي واقد الليثي ، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لما خرج إلى حنين مر بشجرة يقال لها: ذات انواط، يعلق المشركون عليها اسلحتهم، فقالوا: يا رسول الله، اجعل لنا ذات انواط كما لهم ذات انواط، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم:" الله اكبر، هذا كما قالت بنو إسرائيل اجعل لنا إلها كما لهم آلهة سورة الاعراف آية 138، لتركبن سنن من كان قبلكم" .
Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Hunayn, he passed by a tree called "Dhat Anwat." The polytheists used to hang their weapons on it. The people said, "O Messenger of Allah! Appoint for us a 'Dhat Anwat' just as they have a 'Dhat Anwat.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allahu Akbar! This is just like what the Children of Israel said: 'Make for us a god just as they have gods.'" (Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:) "You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you."

حدثنا سفيان ، قال: حدثنا ضمرة بن سعيد المازني ، قال: سمعت عبيد الله بن عتبة ، يقول:" خرج عمر بن الخطاب في يوم عيد، فسال ابا واقد الليثي باي شيء قرا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في هذا اليوم؟ قال ابو واقد:" ب ق، واقتربت" .
Ubaydullah bin Abdullah narrates: On the day of Eid, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him): Which surah did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite on this day? So Sayyiduna Abu Waqid (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: Surah Qaf and Surah Iqtarabat.
