مختصر صحيح مسلم
Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Husband and wife bathing from the same vessel.
It is narrated from Sayyida Mu'adhah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I used to perform ghusl from the same vessel, which was placed between me and him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would take water quickly, to the extent that I would say, "Leave some water for me." (Sayyida Mu'adhah), the narrator of the hadith, says: And both of them would be in a state of janabah.
If in state of janabah and intending to sleep or eat, perform ablution first.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of major ritual impurity and wanted to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer.
A person in janabah may sleep before bathing.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Qais that I asked Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) about the Witr of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then she narrated the hadith (regarding Witr). I asked, "What would the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) do in the state of janabah? Would he perform ghusl before sleeping or would he sleep before performing ghusl?" She said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did both; sometimes he would perform ghusl and then sleep, and sometimes he would perform wudu and then sleep. I said, "All praise is due to Allah who has provided flexibility in this matter."
If one wants to return to his wife, perform ablution.
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: When any one of you has intercourse with his wife, then wishes to have intercourse again, he should perform ablution (and then have intercourse again).
What is reported regarding tayammum (dry ablution).
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her):
We set out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When we reached al-Bayda or Dhat al-Jaysh (al-Bayda and Dhat al-Jaysh are names of places between Khaybar and Madinah), my necklace broke and fell off. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed to look for it, and the people also stayed. There was no water there, nor did the people have any water with them. The people came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said,“Do you not see what Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has done? She has held up the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the people, where there is no water and the people have no water.”Hearing this, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had laid his head on my thigh and was sleeping. He said,“You have held up the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the people, where there is no water and the people have no water.”He became angry and said what Allah willed, and began poking me in my side with his hand. I would have moved, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had his head on my thigh, so I did not move. Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) slept until morning came and there was absolutely no water. Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed the verse of tayammum, so everyone performed tayammum. Usaid bin Hudair (may Allah be pleased with him), who was among the leaders, said,“O family of Abu Bakr! This is not the first blessing that has come to you (meaning, Allah has always given benefit to the Muslims because of you, and this too is a blessing received through you).”Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then we made the camel on which I was riding stand up, and the necklace was found underneath it.

Tayammum due to janabah.
Shaqiq says: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) and Sayyiduna Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with them both. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman" (this is the kunyah of Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with them both), "if a person is in a state of janabah and does not find water for a month, what should he do about prayer?" Sayyiduna Abdullah said, "Even if he does not find water for a month, he should not perform tayammum." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then what is the ruling about the verse in Surah Al-Ma'idah: 'If you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth'?" Sayyiduna Abdullah said, "If by this verse they are allowed to perform tayammum in the state of janabah, then gradually, they will start performing tayammum even when water is cold." Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Have you not heard the hadith of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me on an errand, and there I became junub and did not find water, so I lay down in the dust as an animal does. After that, I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'It would have been sufficient for you to do like this with both your hands.' Then he struck the earth once with both hands and struck the left hand on the right hand, then wiped the back of the hands and the face." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You know that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was not satisfied with the hadith of Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him)." (Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, were of the opinion that tayammum is not sufficient for janabah. But it is proven from ahadith that they later retracted this view.)
Tayammum to reply to salam.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umair, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that: I and Abdur Rahman bin Yasar, who was the freed slave of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), went to Abu Juham bin Harith. Abu Juham said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came from the direction of Bi’r Jamal (a place near Madinah). On the way, a man met him and greeted him with Salam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not reply to him until he came to a wall, wiped his face and both hands, and then replied to the Salam.
A believer is not impure.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he met the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of the roads of Madinah while he was in a state of major ritual impurity (junub), so he slipped away and went to perform ghusl (ritual bath). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed his absence, and when he returned, he asked, "Where were you?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! When you met me, I was in a state of major impurity, and I disliked sitting with you without having performed ghusl." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Subhan Allah! Does a believer ever become impure?"
Remembering Allah at all times.
Umm al-Mu'mineen Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain engaged in the remembrance of Allah at all times and in every condition.
A person without ablution may eat and drink.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the toilet and food was brought. People reminded him about ablution, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Am I about to pray that I should perform ablution?"
