Guidance for this Ummah regarding Friday
Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: We are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection. And we will be the first to enter Paradise. However, the fact is that the Book was given to those people before us and to us after them. And they differed regarding the truth. So this Friday is the day about which they differed, and Allah guided us. Thus, Friday is for us, the next day is for the Jews (i.e., Saturday), and the third day is for the Christians (i.e., Sunday, which they have fixed for themselves).
Virtue of Friday
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On this day Adam (peace be upon him) was created, on this day he was admitted into Paradise, and on this day he was expelled from it. And the Day of Resurrection will also be established on this Friday.
A special hour on Friday
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that Abul Qasim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is an hour on Friday during which, if a Muslim stands in prayer and asks Allah for something good, Allah will surely grant it to him." And (the narrator said) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) indicated with his hand that it is very brief, and he encouraged seeking it.
Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa Ash'ari رضي الله عنه said that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar رضي الله عنهما said to me, "Have you heard anything from your father about the hour of Jumu'ah which he narrated from the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم?" I said, "Yes, I heard from him." He used to say that I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم say, "That hour is from when the Imam sits down for the sermon until the prayer is offered."
What to recite in Fajr prayer on Friday
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite "Alif Lam Meem Sajdah" and "Hal Ata Alal Insan Hainum Minad Dahr" in the Fajr prayer on Friday, and in the Friday prayer he used to recite Surah Al-Jumu'ah and Al-Munafiqun.
Bathing on Friday
`Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the Friday sermon to the people one day when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) pointed towards him and said, "What will be the state of those people who delay after the adhan?" So Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Commander of the Faithful! When I heard the adhan, I did nothing except perform wudu; I performed wudu and came." Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Did you only perform wudu? Did the people not hear that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say that when any of you comes for Jumu'ah, he must perform ghusl?"
Using perfume and miswak on Friday
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bathing and using the miswak on Friday is obligatory upon every adult. And if perfume is available, it should also be applied.
Virtue of coming early on Friday
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: When it is the day of Jumu’ah, at every door of the mosque there are angels who write down (the names of) those who come, the first one who comes, then the one after him, then the one after him. Then when the Imam sits on the pulpit, the angels close their registers and come to listen to the sermon. And the example of the reward for the one who comes at the earliest time is like one who offers a camel in sacrifice. The one who comes after him is like one who offers a cow in sacrifice. The one who comes after him is like one who offers a ram in sacrifice. The one who comes after him is like one who offers a chicken in sacrifice. The one who comes after him is like one who offers an egg in the way of Allah.
Time for Friday prayer is after the sun passes the zenith
Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to perform Jumu’ah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when the sun had declined. Then we would return seeking shade (that is, there would be no shade of the walls).
Prophet’s pulpit and standing on it during prayer
Narrated from Abu Hazim: Some people came to Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) and began to argue about the pulpit—what kind of wood it was made from. He said: I know what kind of wood it was made from and who made it. And I saw when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat on it for the first time. (Abu Hazim says:) I said: O Abu Abbas! Tell us all about this. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word to a woman (Abu Hazim said that Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned the name of this woman that day) that she should allow her slave, who was a carpenter, some time to make a few pieces of wood for me, that is, a pulpit on which I may speak to the people (that is, give sermons and advice). So her slave made a pulpit with three steps, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that it be placed in the mosque at that spot. Its wood was from the tamarisk of Ghabah (Ghabah is a place on the heights of Madinah), and I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stand on it and say the takbir. The people also said the takbir behind him while he was on the pulpit. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head from bowing and stepped down backwards until he prostrated at the base of the pulpit. Then he returned to the pulpit until he finished the prayer. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the people and said: O people! I did this so that you may follow me and learn to pray as I pray.
