مختصر صحيح مسلم
Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Giving a gift to one child over others.
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that my father (may Allah be pleased with him) took me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said,“O Messenger of Allah! Bear witness that I have given (my son) Nu’man such and such things from my wealth as a gift.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked,“Have you given all your sons the same as you have given to Nu’man?”My father (may Allah be pleased with him) replied,“No.”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Then do not make me a witness, rather make someone else a witness.”Then he said,“Do you like that all your children should be equal in showing kindness to you?”My father replied,“Yes.”So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Then do not do this (i.e., do not give to one and not to the others).”
Gifting something to someone for their lifetime.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever gives something (as a gift) to someone for his lifetime and to his heirs, and says: "I have given this to you and after you to your heirs as long as any of them remain," then it will belong to the one to whom the 'Umra (life grant) was given. And it will not return to the giver, because he has given such a gift in which inheritance will take place.
`Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Withhold your wealth and do not spoil it, for whoever gives 'Umra, it belongs to the one to whom it is given, whether he is alive or dead, and (after his death) it belongs to his heirs.
