Eating dates and discarding pits between fingers
‘Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed with my father, and we presented food and watbah. (Watbah is a dish made by mixing dates, cheese, and ghee.) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate it. Then dried dates were brought, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would eat them and place the pits between his index and middle fingers and throw them away. Shu’bah said: This is what I think, and I believe this is what is in the hadith, that the pits were placed between the two fingers (meaning, the pits were not mixed with the dates but kept separate). Then something to drink was brought, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank and then gave it to the one sitting on his right. Then my father held the reins of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) animal and requested: Pray for us. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Allah! Bless their sustenance, forgive them, and have mercy on them.

Eating dates while sitting in Iq‘aa position
'Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that' dates were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he began to distribute them, and he was sitting in the manner of one who sits in haste (i.e., squatting), and he was eating from them quickly (perhaps the Prophet, peace be upon him, had some other task to attend to). In another narration, it is mentioned that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in the position of Iq‘a’ while eating dates.

Prohibition of eating two dates at once
Jabala bin Suhaim says that Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) used to give us dates to eat, and in those days people were experiencing hardship (regarding food). We were eating when Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by and said: "Do not eat two dates together (at once), because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that, except when you have permission from your brother." Shu’bah said: I think the statement about seeking permission is from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Regarding black pilu fruit
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at (the place of) Marr az-Zahran, and we were picking kabath (the fruit of a wild tree), when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Pick the black ones. We said: O Messenger of Allah! It seems as if you have grazed goats (since you know about the wilderness)? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Yes! And there has never been a prophet who did not graze goats, or he said something similar.

Eating rabbit meat
`Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we were going along when at (the place of) Mar al-Zahran we saw a rabbit, so we chased it. The first people ran after it but became tired, then I ran and caught it and brought it to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him). He slaughtered it and sent its back and both thighs to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I brought them, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted them.

Regarding eating monitor lizard
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), who was called the Sword of Allah, informed that he went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to Umm al-Mu’minin Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the purified wife of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the maternal aunt of both Khalid and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). There they found roasted meat of a lizard (dabb), which Maymunah’s sister, Hafidah bint Harith, had brought from Najd. Then she (Maymunah) placed that lizard before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and it was rare that any food was placed before him without it being mentioned and named (as to what it was). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached his hand towards the lizard, when one of the women present spoke up and said,“Tell the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what has been placed before him.”They said,“O Messenger of Allah! This is a lizard.”So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his hand. Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“O Messenger of Allah! Is the lizard forbidden?”He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied,“No, it is not forbidden, but it is not found in my land, so I feel a dislike for it.”Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said,“Then I pulled it towards me and ate it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was watching me eat and did not stop me.”

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "We live in a land where there are many lizards, and most of the food of my family is that." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not reply to him. We said, "Ask again." He asked again, but the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not reply three times. Then, on the third time (or after the third time), the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called him and said, "O Bedouin! Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, cursed or became angry with a group of the Children of Israel, so He transformed them into animals, and they used to walk on the earth. I do not know whether the lizard is from among those animals or not. Therefore, I do not eat it, nor do I declare it unlawful."
