On magic and the Jews’ magic on the Prophet
‘Mother of the Believers, Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that a Jew from Banu Zurayq, Labeed bin A’sam, cast magic on the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), to the extent that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would imagine that he was doing something, even though he had not done it. One day or one night, the Prophet (peace be upon him) made supplication, then made supplication again, then said,“O Aisha! Do you know that Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, has informed me of what I asked Him?”Two men came to me, one sat at my head and the other at my feet (they were both angels). The one sitting at my head said to the one at my feet, and the one at my feet said to the one at my head,“What is wrong with this man?”He replied,“He has been affected by magic.”He asked,“Who has done magic on him?”He replied,“Labeed bin A’sam.”Then he asked,“In what has the magic been done?”He replied,“In a comb and the hair that falls from it, and in the fibers of a male date palm’s spadix.”He asked,“Where is it kept?”He replied,“In the well of Dhi Arwan.”Mother of the Believers, Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said that then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to that well with some of his companions, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,“O Aisha! By Allah, the water of this well was as if it were the infusion of henna, and the date palms there were as if they were the heads of devils.”I said,“O Messenger of Allah! Why did you not burn it?”(meaning the hair and other things that were taken out) The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,“Allah has cured me, and I disliked stirring up trouble among the people, so I ordered it to be buried.”

Reciting Mu‘awwidhat for the sick and blowing
‘Umm al-Mu’minin A’ishah Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when there was someone ill in the house, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Mu’awwidhat (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Naas) and blow over him. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself fell ill, in the illness during which he passed away, I would blow over him and would pass his own hand over him, because his blessed hand had more blessing than my hand.

Reciting Al-Fatiha for scorpion sting
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) were on a journey and passed by a tribe of the Arabs. They asked them for hospitality, but they did not offer them any hospitality. Then they (the people of the tribe) said, "Is there anyone among you who knows incantation (ruqyah)?" Their chief had been stung by a scorpion. One of the companions said, "Yes, I know an incantation." Then he recited Surah Al-Fatihah and blew over him, and he was cured. So they gave them a flock of sheep, but they did not accept it and said, "I will ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and related the incident and said, "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah, I did nothing except recite Surah Al-Fatihah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and said, "How did you know that it is an incantation?" Then he said, "Take the flock of sheep and allocate a share for me as well (because the Qur'an was revealed to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him)."

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade incantations (ruqyah). Then the people of Amr bin Hazm came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! We have an incantation for scorpion stings, but you have forbidden incantations?" The narrator says that they presented that incantation before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "I do not see any harm in it. If any of you can benefit his brother, then let him do so."
