Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim
Reward for pain and illness of a believer
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) says that I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) one day, and he had a fever. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! You have a severe fever." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I have as much fever as two men among you." I said, "Is it because you will have a double reward?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Yes." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No Muslim is afflicted with sickness or any other hardship, except that Allah, the Exalted, drops his sins as a tree sheds its (dry) leaves."
Virtue of visiting the sick
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Whoever visits a sick person (by going to his place) is in a garden of Paradise until he returns.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will say on the Day of Resurrection, "O son of Adam! I was ill and you did not visit Me." He will say, "O my Lord! How could I visit You? You are the Lord of all the worlds!" Allah will say, "Did you not know that My servant so-and-so was ill, and you did not visit him? Had you visited him, you would have found Me with him. O son of Adam! I asked you for food, but you did not feed Me." He will say, "O Lord! How could I feed You? You are the Lord of all the worlds!" Allah will say, "Did you not know that My servant so-and-so asked you for food, but you did not feed him? Had you fed him, you would have found its reward with Me. O son of Adam! I asked you for water, but you did not give Me to drink." The servant will say, "How could I give You to drink? You are the Lord of all the worlds!" Allah will say, "My servant so-and-so asked you for water, but you did not give him to drink. Had you given him to drink, you would have found its reward with Me."
Do not say“My soul has become impure”
‘Umm al-Mu’minin A’ishah Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No one should say that my soul has become impure (i.e., filthy and unclean), rather he should say that my soul has become lazy and sluggish. (Impure and unclean is a title for a disbeliever, and therefore a Muslim is forbidden from using this word for himself. And in another hadith it is mentioned that then in the morning the impure soul rises, so that is the attribute of someone else and refers to an ambiguous person; such usage is not prohibited.)
Every disease has a cure
Narrated by Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: For every disease there is a cure; when the cure reaches the disease, by the command of Allah, healing occurs.
Fever is from Hell’s heat; cool it with water
Narrated from Sayyida Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) that when a woman suffering from fever was brought to her, she would ask for water and pour it into her collar, and would say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Cool it (the fever) with water," and said: "Fever is from the steam of Hell."
Fever removes sins
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musayyib) (may Allah be pleased with her), and said: "O Umm Sa'ib (or Umm Musayyib)! You are trembling, what has happened to you?" She replied, "It is fever, may Allah not bless it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not speak ill of fever, for it removes the sins of people just as a furnace removes the impurities of iron."
Epilepsy and its reward
‘Ata bin Abi Rabah says that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to me,“Shall I show you a woman of Paradise?”I said,“Show me.”He said,“This black woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, ‘I suffer from epilepsy and during it my body becomes uncovered. Please pray to Allah for me.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘If you are patient, you will have Paradise, but if you wish, I will pray to Allah to cure you.’ She said, ‘I will be patient.’ Then she said, ‘But my body becomes uncovered, so please pray to Allah that my body does not become uncovered.’ So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for her (and her body was never uncovered in that state). It is known from this that the reward for patience in illness and hardship is Paradise.”
Talbina comforts the sick heart
Narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her): When someone would die in her house, women would gather, and when they would leave and only the household members and close people remained, she would order for a pot of talbina to be prepared (talbina is a porridge made by mixing bran or flour with honey), then it would be cooked. After that, tharid (bread and broth) would be prepared and the talbina would be poured over it. Then she would say to the women,“Eat it, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Talbina comforts the heart of the sick and lessens some of the sorrow when it is drunk.”
Treating with honey
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My brother is suffering from diarrhea." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Make him drink honey." He made him drink honey. Then he came back and said, "The diarrhea has increased after giving honey." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said the same thing three times, "Make him drink honey." Then, the fourth time, he came and said, "I have given him honey, but the diarrhea has increased." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah has spoken the truth and your brother's stomach has lied." Then he made him drink honey, and he was cured.
