Story of Ibn Sayyad.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Dajjal will be blind in the left eye, and will have thick hair. He will have with him a garden and a fire. So his fire will actually be a garden, and his garden will actually be fire. (The scholars have said that this too is a test from Allah Almighty for His servants, so that He may establish the truth as truth and falsehood as falsehood, then disgrace him and manifest his helplessness among the people.)

Narrated from Nawwas bin Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Dajjal one morning, sometimes minimizing and sometimes magnifying (i.e., sometimes belittling him and sometimes describing the greatness of his trial, or sometimes speaking loudly and sometimes softly), until we thought that the Dajjal was in the cluster of date palms. Then, when we went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the evening, he noticed the effect (i.e., fear and terror) on our faces. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What is your condition?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah! You mentioned the Dajjal and minimized and magnified him, until we thought that the Dajjal is present among those date palms (i.e., his coming is very near)." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Other things besides the Dajjal are more fearful for me for you (i.e., trials and internal conflicts). If the Dajjal comes out while I am among you, then I will be his opponent before you (I will fight him) and will protect you from his evil. And if he comes out and I am not among you, then every man (Muslim) should fight him on his own behalf, and Allah will be my successor and guardian over every Muslim. As for the Dajjal, he is a young man with curly hair, his eye is protruding, as if I liken him to 'Abd al-'Uzza bin Qatan. So whoever among you encounters the Dajjal, he should recite the opening verses of Surah Al-Kahf over him. Surely, he will emerge from the road between Syria and Iraq and will spread corruption to his right and left. O servants of Allah! Remain firm upon faith." The Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah! How long will he remain on the earth?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Forty days, one day will be like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of the days will be like your (normal) days." The Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah! The day which will be like a year, will the prayers of one day suffice for us on that day?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "No, you must estimate (the prayers for that year)." The Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah! How will his movement on the earth be?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Like a cloud driven by the wind from behind. He will come to a people and invite them, and they will believe in him and accept his word. Then he will command the sky, and it will rain, and he will command the earth, and it will produce grass and grain. In the evening, their animals will return with their humps higher than before, their udders full, and their flanks stretched (i.e., very fat). Then the Dajjal will come to another people and invite them, but they will not accept his word. So he will turn away from them, and they will be afflicted with drought and famine, and nothing will remain in their hands of their wealth. The Dajjal will pass by a ruined land and say, 'O earth! Bring forth your treasures,' and its wealth and treasures will come out and gather before him like bees swarm around their queen. Then the Dajjal will call a young man and strike him with a sword, cutting him into two pieces as a target is split, then he will revive him and call him, and the young man will come forward with a radiant face, laughing. While the Dajjal is in this state, suddenly Allah will send down 'Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon them). 'Isa (peace be upon him) will descend at the white minaret in the east of Damascus, wearing two yellow garments, with his hands resting on the wings of two angels. When 'Isa (peace be upon him) lowers his head, drops of sweat will fall, and when he raises his head, drops like pearls will fall. Every disbeliever who smells the fragrance of 'Isa's breath will die, and his breath will reach as far as his gaze. Then 'Isa (peace be upon him) will search for the Dajjal until he finds him at the gate of Ludd (a mountain in Syria) and will kill him there. Then those whom Allah has protected from the evil of the Dajjal will come to 'Isa (peace be upon him), and he will gently wipe their faces and inform them of their ranks in Paradise. While they are in this state, Allah will reveal to 'Isa (peace be upon him) that 'I have brought forth such servants of Mine that no one has the power to fight them; take My believing servants to the mountain of Tur for refuge.' And Allah will send forth Gog and Magog, and they will descend from every height. The first of them will pass by the lake of Tabariyyah and drink all its water. Then the last of them, when they pass by, will say, 'There was once water here.' (Then they will proceed until they reach the mountain with many trees, i.e., the mountain of Bayt al-Maqdis, and they will say, 'We have killed the inhabitants of the earth, now let us kill the inhabitants of the sky,' so they will shoot their arrows towards the sky. Allah will return their arrows stained with blood, and they will think they have killed the people of the sky. (This part is not in this narration but is taken from the following narration.) And the Prophet of Allah, 'Isa (peace be upon him), and his companions will remain besieged until the head of an ox will be more valuable to them than a hundred gold coins today (i.e., there will be extreme scarcity of food). Then the Prophet of Allah, 'Isa (peace be upon him), and his companions will supplicate, and Allah will send a worm into the necks of Gog and Magog, and by morning they will all die as one man dies. Then the Messenger of Allah, 'Isa (peace be upon him), and his companions will descend to the earth and will not find a handspan of space free from their stench and filth (i.e., their decaying corpses will cover the entire earth). Then the Messenger of Allah, 'Isa (peace be upon him), and his companions will supplicate to Allah, and Allah will send birds with necks like camels, which will carry them away and throw them wherever Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain such that the earth will be ordered to produce its fruits and restore its blessings. On that day, a group will eat from a single pomegranate and will sit in its shade, using its peel as a shelter. There will be blessings in milk, so much so that a milch camel will suffice for a large group of people, a milch cow for a tribe, and a milch goat for a whole family. While people are in this state, suddenly Allah will send a pure wind, which will touch them under their armpits and take effect, so the soul of every believer and Muslim will be taken, and only the worst of people will remain, who will openly commit intercourse like donkeys, and upon them the Hour will be established.

Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) narrated to us a long hadith regarding the mention of Dajjal, and in it he also stated that it will be forbidden for him to enter the mountain passes of Madinah, and he will come to a rocky land near Madinah. Then a man will go to him who will be the best among the people, and he will say: I bear witness that you are indeed the Dajjal whose mention the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made in his hadith. Dajjal will say to the people: Tell me, if I kill him and then bring him back to life, will you have any doubt about this matter? They will say: No. Dajjal will kill that man and then bring him back to life. So when he brings him back to life, the man will say: By Allah! I was not as sure about you before as I am now. (That is, now I am certain that you are the Dajjal.) Then Dajjal will want to kill him again but will not be able to. The narrator Abu Ishaq said: This man is Khidr (peace be upon him). (But this is not proven; rather, the evidence indicates that Khidr (peace be upon him) has passed away.)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The Dajjal will emerge and a man from among the Muslims will go towards him. On the way, he will meet the armed men of the Dajjal. They will ask him, "Where are you going?" He will reply, "I am going to the one who has appeared." They will say, "Do you not believe in our master?" He will say, "Our master is not hidden." The people of the Dajjal will say, "Kill him." Then they will say among themselves, "Our master has forbidden us to kill anyone until he is brought before him." Then he will be taken to the Dajjal. When he sees the Dajjal, he will say, "O people! This is the very Dajjal about whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) informed us." The Dajjal will order his people, and he will be struck on his head, back, and stomach. Then he will say, "Seize him and split his head open." Then the Dajjal will ask him, "Do you not believe in me (i.e., in my divinity)?" He will say, "You are the false Messiah." Then the Dajjal will order, and he will be sawn from his head down to his two feet, until he is split into two pieces. Then the Dajjal will stand between the two pieces and say, "Stand up." The man will (come to life and) stand up straight. Then he will be asked, "Do you now believe in me?" He will say, "I am even more certain that you are the Dajjal." Then he will say to the people, "O people! Now the Dajjal will not be able to do this to anyone else besides me (i.e., he will not be able to burn anyone else)." Then the Dajjal will seize him to slaughter him, but from his throat to his collarbone, he will become as if made of copper, and the Dajjal will not be able to slaughter him. Then he will seize his hands and feet and throw him away. People will think that he has been thrown into the fire, but in fact, he will be thrown into Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: This man is the greatest martyr in the sight of Allah, Lord of the worlds, among all people.

Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: No one asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Dajjal as much as I did. Until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why are you worried? The Dajjal will not harm you. I said: O Messenger of Allah! People say that he will have food and rivers with him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He will have that, but that is even easier for Allah (Allah can give him even more authority than that, what difficulty is there in that? Meaning, whatever he has, he will not be able to mislead the believers with it).

Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Salim says: I heard Ya’qub bin ‘Asim bin ‘Urwah bin Mas’ud al-Thaqafi say that I heard ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with them) say, and a man came to him and said:“What is this hadith that you narrate, that the Hour will occur after such and such period?”He (‘Abdullah) (astonished) said:“Subhan Allah, or La ilaha illallah, or he said some other similar phrase, and then said: I think now I will not narrate any hadith to anyone (because people say things and defame me). I only said that after a few days you will see a great event that will burn the house, and it will surely happen.”Then he said:“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘The Dajjal will emerge among my Ummah and will remain for forty.’ I do not know whether he said forty days, or forty months, or forty years. Then Allah, the Exalted, will send ‘Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon them), and his appearance will be like that of ‘Urwah bin Mas’ud. He will search for the Dajjal and kill him. Then for seven years, people will live in such a state that there will be no enmity between any two persons. Then Allah, the Exalted, will send a cool wind from the direction of Syria, and there will not remain on the earth anyone in whose heart is even the weight of a mustard seed of faith or goodness, but that wind will take his soul. So much so that if any of you were to enter into the heart of a mountain, that wind would reach him there and take his soul.”Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said:“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Then only the worst of people will remain in the world, hasty or foolish like birds, and their character will be like wild beasts. They will not recognize good as good, nor evil as evil. Then Satan will come to them in a form and say: Will you not obey me? They will say: What do you command us? He will say: Worship idols. They will worship idols, and despite that, their sustenance will be abundant and they will live in comfort. Then the Trumpet will be blown, and no one will hear it but will bend his neck to one side and raise it from the other (i.e., he will fall unconscious), and the first to hear the Trumpet will be the one who is plastering the trough of his camels. He will fall unconscious, and the other people will also fall unconscious. Then Allah, the Exalted, will send down rain like semen, and from it, people’s bodies will grow. Then the Trumpet will be blown again, and all the people will stand up looking on. Then it will be proclaimed: O people! Come to your Lord, and make them stand, surely they will be questioned.’ (__QUR_N__) Then it will be said: ‘Take out a group for Hell.’ It will be asked: ‘How many?’ It will be commanded: ‘From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine (and from every thousand, one will be of Paradise).’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘This is the day that will make children old (from its terror and calamity or its length), and this is the day when the shin will be uncovered (i.e., there will be hardship, or Allah, the Exalted, will reveal His shin on the Day of Resurrection, at which the believers will fall in prostration).’

First sign of the Hour: the sun rising from the west.
`Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I memorized a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which I have never forgotten. I heard him say that among the first signs of the Day of Judgment is the rising of the sun from the west and the emergence of the beast of the earth upon the people at forenoon. And whichever of these two signs appears first, the other will soon follow after it.

Description of the Dajjal, his emergence, and the hadith of Jassasah.
Narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Amir bin Shurahil Sha‘bi (Sha‘b Hamdan): He said to Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the sister of Sayyiduna Dihhak bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) and among those women who migrated early,“Tell me a hadith that you heard directly from the Messenger of Allah.”She replied,“Alright, if you wish, I will narrate it.”He said,“Yes, narrate it.”Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I married Ibn Mughirah, and at that time he was among the distinguished young men of Quraysh. Then he was martyred in the first battle with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I became a widow, ‘Abdur Rahman bin ‘Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came with some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and proposed marriage to me. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a proposal for his freed slave Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). And I had heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):“Whoever loves me should also love Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him).”When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke to me about this, I said,“The matter of my affair is in your hands; marry me to whomever you wish.”He (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Go to the house of Umm Sharik.”Umm Sharik was a wealthy woman among the Ansar and used to spend a lot in the way of Allah; guests would stay with her. I said,“Very well, I will go to Umm Sharik.”Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Do not go to Umm Sharik, for many guests come to her, and I dislike that your veil might fall or your shins become uncovered and people see something of your body that would displease you. Go to your paternal cousin, ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr ibn Umm Maktum, who was from Banu Fihr, a branch of Quraysh, and from the same tribe as Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her).”Then Sayyidah Fatimah said: I went to his house. When my ‘iddah (waiting period) ended, I heard the voice of a caller, and that caller was the announcer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), calling out,“Gather for prayer.”I also went out towards the mosque and prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I was in the row in which the women were behind the people. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he sat on the pulpit and was smiling. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Let every person remain in his place of prayer.”Then he said,“Do you know why I have gathered you?”The companions said,“Allah and His Messenger know best.”He (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“By Allah, I have not gathered you to encourage or frighten you, but because Tamim Dari, who was a Christian, came, pledged allegiance, became Muslim, and narrated to me a hadith which agrees with what I used to tell you about the Dajjal. He narrated that he (i.e., Tamim) boarded a ship with thirty men from the tribes of Lakhm and Judham. The sea waves played with them for a month. Then they landed on the shore of an island towards the setting sun. They boarded a small boat and entered the island. There they met a beast with a heavy tail, covered with so much hair that its front and back could not be distinguished due to the abundance of hair. The people said to it, ‘Woe to you! What are you?’ It said, ‘I am a spy.’ The people said, ‘What is a spy?’ It said, ‘Go to that man in the monastery, for he is very eager to know your news.’ Tamim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When it mentioned the man, we were afraid of the beast, lest it be a devil. Tamim said: Then we hurriedly entered the monastery. There we saw a man of great stature, the likes of whom we had never seen, and he was bound very tightly. His hands were tied to his neck, and his legs were shackled from knees to ankles with iron. We said, ‘Woe to you! What are you?’ He said, ‘You have come to know about me (i.e., now you will know my condition). Tell me about yourselves, who are you?’ The people said, ‘We are Arabs. We boarded a ship, but when we set sail, we found the sea in turmoil. The waves played with us for a month, then we landed on this island. We boarded a small boat and entered the island. We met a beast with a heavy tail and much hair, so much so that we could not distinguish its front from its back due to the abundance of hair. We said to it,“Woe to you! What are you?”It said,“I am a spy.”We said,“What is a spy?”It said,“Go to that man in the monastery, for he is very eager to know your news.”So we came to you hurriedly, fearing it might be a demon.’ Then that man said, ‘Tell me about the date palms of Baisan.’ We said, ‘What do you want to know about them?’ He said, ‘I ask you whether they bear fruit?’ We said, ‘Yes, they bear fruit.’ He said, ‘Be informed, they will soon not bear fruit.’ He said, ‘Tell me about the lake of Tabariyyah (Tiberias).’ We said, ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said, ‘Is there water in it?’ The people said, ‘There is plenty of water in it.’ He said, ‘Indeed, its water will soon run out.’ Then he said, ‘Tell me about the spring of Zughar.’ The people said, ‘What do you want to know about it?’ He said, ‘Is there water in that spring, and do the people irrigate their crops with it?’ We said, ‘Yes, it has plenty of water, and the people irrigate their crops with it.’ He said, ‘Tell me about the Prophet of the unlettered (Ummiyeen)—what has he done?’ The people said, ‘He has come out from Makkah and settled in Madinah.’ He said, ‘Did the Arabs fight him?’ We said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘How did he deal with them?’ We said, ‘He prevailed over the Arabs around him, and they obeyed him.’ He said, ‘Has it really happened?’ We said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘It is better for them that they obey him. Now I will tell you about myself: I am the Messiah (Dajjal). The time is near when I will be permitted to come out. I will travel about and will not leave any town except that I will enter it within forty nights, except Makkah and Taybah (Madinah), for they are forbidden to me. Whenever I try to enter either of them, an angel with a drawn sword in his hand will confront me and prevent me from entering, and there will be angels guarding every path to them.’ Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) struck the pulpit with his staff and said, ‘This is Taybah, this is Taybah, this is Taybah,’ meaning Madinah. Beware! Have I not told you about this before?’ The companions said, ‘Yes.’ The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘I liked the story of Tamim (may Allah be pleased with him), for it agrees with what I have told you about the Dajjal, and about Madinah and Makkah. Beware! He is in the sea of Syria or Yemen? No, rather he is in the east, he is in the east, he is in the east (to the east is the Indian Ocean; perhaps Dajjal is on an island in the Indian Ocean),’ and he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards the east. Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I have remembered this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no city which the Dajjal will not enter except Mecca and Madinah, and there will be no path except that angels will be standing in rows guarding every path. Then the Dajjal will descend at the place of Sabkhah (near Madinah), and Madinah will shake three times (i.e., there will be three earthquakes in it), and every disbeliever or hypocrite in it will come out and go to the Dajjal.
