War with Rome and killing before the emergence of the Dajjal.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Yasir bin Jabir that once a red wind blew in Kufa, so a man came whose habitual saying was, "O Abdullah bin Mas'ud! The Hour has come." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) sat down, whereas before he had been reclining, and said, "The Hour will not be established until inheritance is not distributed and there is no joy over war booty (because when there will be no heirs left, who will distribute the inheritance, and when no one survives the battle, what joy will there be in war booty)." Then he pointed with his hand towards the land of Syria and said, "The enemy (Christians) will gather to fight the Muslims, and the Muslims will also gather to fight them." I said, "By enemy, do you mean the Christians?" He said, "Yes." And at that time, a fierce battle will begin. The Muslims will send forward an army that will advance to die and will not return without victory (meaning, they will go with the intention that either they will die fighting or return victorious). Then both sides will fight until night intervenes. Then the armies of both sides will return, and neither will have gained victory. And the advancing army will be completely annihilated (meaning, all its members will be killed). The next day, the Muslims will again send forward an army that will go either to die or to be victorious, and the battle will continue until night intervenes. Then the armies of both sides will return, and neither will have gained victory, and the advancing army will be completely annihilated. Then on the third day, the Muslims will send forward an army with the intention of dying or being victorious, and the battle will continue until evening, then the armies of both sides will return, neither will have gained victory, and that army will be annihilated. When the fourth day comes, all the Muslims who remain will advance, and on that day Allah Almighty will defeat the disbelievers, and such a battle will take place that no one will have seen the like of it, or no one will ever see such a battle, to the extent that a bird flying over them or over their bodies will not be able to go further before it falls dead. Out of a group of people who number a hundred, only one person will survive (i.e., ninety-nine percent will be killed and one will remain). In such a situation, what joy will there be in war booty, and what inheritance will be distributed? Then the Muslims will be in this state when they will hear news of another great calamity. A caller will come to them saying that the Dajjal (the Antichrist) has come among their families and children behind them. Upon hearing this, they will leave whatever is in their hands and set out, and will send ten horsemen as scouts (to bring news of the Dajjal). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I know the names of those horsemen and the names of their fathers, and I also know the colors of their horses, and they will be the best horsemen on the face of the earth that day, or among the best horsemen that day."

Muslims’ victories before the Dajjal.
Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from Nafi’ bin Utbah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a battle, when some people came to him from the west, wearing woolen clothes. They met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) near a mound. Those people were standing and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting. My heart said: Go and stand between those people and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), lest they, by deceit, kill the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then my heart said: Perhaps the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is secretly talking to them (and my going there would be unpleasant to him). Then I went and stood between those people and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So I remembered four things from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at that time, which I counted on my hand. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: First, you will fight (the disbelievers) in the Arabian Peninsula, and Allah will grant victory over it. Then you will fight the Persians (Iranians), and Allah will grant victory over them as well. Then you will fight the Christians, the Romans, and Allah will grant victory over Rome as well. Then you will fight the Dajjal, and Allah will grant victory over him too. (This hadith is a great miracle of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.) Nafi’ said: O Jabir bin Samurah! We think that the Dajjal will emerge only after Rome is conquered.

Conquest of Constantinople.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The Hour will not be established until the army of the Romans (Christians) descends at A’maq or Dabiq (both places are in Syria, near Aleppo). Then an army from Madinah will march towards them, and they will be the best people on earth at that time. When the two armies line up, the Christians will say: Separate from those (i.e., the Muslims) who captured our women and children and made them slaves; we will fight them. The Muslims will say: No, by Allah! We will never separate from our brothers. Then there will be a battle, and one third of the Muslim army will flee. Allah will never accept their repentance. One third will be killed, and they will be the best of martyrs in the sight of Allah. And one third will be victorious, and they will never be afflicted by any trial or calamity for the rest of their lives. Then they will conquer Constantinople (Istanbul), which will have come under the control of the Christians. (Currently, this city is under Muslim control.) They will hang their swords on olive trees and distribute the spoils of war, when Satan will call out: The Dajjal has appeared among your families in your homes behind you. So the Muslims will set out from there, but this news will be false. When they reach the land of Syria, then the Dajjal will actually emerge. When the Muslims are preparing for battle and have lined up for prayer, the time for prayer will come, and at that moment, Sayyiduna ‘Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon them) will descend and will lead them in prayer as their Imam. When the enemy of Allah, the Dajjal, sees Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him), he will dissolve from fear just as salt dissolves in water. Even if ‘Isa (peace be upon him) were to leave him alone, he would still dissolve and perish, but Allah will cause him to be killed at the hands of Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him), and the people will be shown his blood on the spear of ‘Isa (peace be upon him).

Army heading for the Ka‘bah will be swallowed by the earth.
‘Ubaidullah bin Qabtiyyah narrates that Harith bin Rabi‘ah and ‘Abdullah bin Safwan both went to Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). I was also with them. They asked Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) about the army that will be swallowed up, and this was during the time when Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) was the ruler of Makkah. She said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“A seeker of refuge will seek refuge in the Ka‘bah (meaning the Mahdi, peace be upon him), so an army will be sent towards him. When they reach an open plain, they will be swallowed up.”I said,“O Messenger of Allah! What about the person who is forced to be with that army (while disliking it in his heart)?”He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“He will also be swallowed up with them, but on the Day of Resurrection he will be raised according to his intention.”Abu Ja‘far said that what is meant is the plain of Madinah.

About the houses and population of Madinah before the Hour.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: (Near the Day of Judgment, the houses of Madinah) will reach Ahab or Yehab. Zuhair said: I asked Suhail, how far is Ahab from Madinah? He said: At such and such miles (i.e., quite a few miles away).

The Ka‘bah will be destroyed by an Abyssinian with thin legs.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Ka'bah will be destroyed by a man from Abyssinia who has small shins." (It means the disbelievers of Abyssinia, who are Christians, or the idolaters of central Abyssinia, will gain dominance in the end times, and when the Muslims have departed from the world, this accursed Abyssinian will commit this act.)

Iraq withholding its currency.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The land of Iraq will withhold its dirham and qafiz, the land of Sham will withhold its mudd and dinar, and the land of Egypt will withhold its irdabb and dinar, and you will become as you were before, and you will become as you were before, and you will become as you were before. Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Abu Hurairah’s (may Allah be pleased with him) flesh and blood bear witness to this hadith (meaning there is no doubt in it).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Famine is not that rain does not fall, rather famine is that rain falls and falls abundantly, but nothing grows from the earth.

Trust and faith will be removed from hearts.
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us two hadiths (regarding trust). I have witnessed one, and I am waiting for the fulfillment of the other. (The first hadith is that) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that trust descended to the root of people's hearts. Then the Qur'an was revealed, so they acquired the Qur'an and they acquired the hadith. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us (the second) hadith that trust will be taken away. He said that a person will sleep for a short while, then trust will be taken away from his heart and its mark will remain like a faint spot. Then he will sleep again, and trust will be taken away from his heart and its mark will remain like a blister, as if you roll a burning coal on your foot, then the skin swells and a blister appears, which you see as raised and swollen, but there is nothing inside it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a pebble and rolled it on his foot and said that people will buy and sell, and none among them will fulfill trust, to the extent that people will say, "There is a trustworthy person in such-and-such tribe," and to the extent that it will be said about a person, "How clever, pleasant, and wise he is" (i.e., they will praise him), but there will not be even a mustard seed's worth of faith in his heart. Then Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a time has passed over me when I used to deal (i.e., conduct transactions) with everyone without any fear, because if he was a Muslim, his religion would prevent him from dishonesty, and if he was a Christian or a Jew, the ruler would prevent him from dishonesty. But today, I will never deal with you people, except with so-and-so and so-and-so.

In the last days, a caliph (Mahdi) will distribute wealth generously.
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Nadrah that: We were with Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he said: "It is near that the people of Iraq will not receive their qafiz and dirham." We asked, "For what reason?" He said, "The non-Arabs will withhold it from them." Then he said, "It is near that the people of Shaam will not receive their dinar and mudd (mudd is a measure, just as qafiz is)." We asked, "For what reason?" He said, "The Romans will withhold it from them." Then he remained silent for a while, and after that said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'In the last part of my Ummah, there will be a caliph who will distribute wealth in handfuls (i.e., he will give money and gold coins to people) and will not count it.'" Jarir said: "I asked Abu Nadrah and Abu Alaa, 'Do you think this caliph is Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him)?' They said, 'No.' (This refers to Mahdi, who will appear in the last era of the Ummah. Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) was at the beginning.)"
