Kulaib bin Manfa‘ah narrates that his grandfather (Bakr bin Harith Ansari) submitted: O Messenger of Allah! With whom should I show good conduct? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“Show good conduct to your mother, your father, your sister, and your brother. And show good conduct to other relatives besides them as well. This is a due right, and maintaining ties of kinship and upholding family relations is obligatory.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: «وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ» [سورہ الشعراء: 214] "And warn your closest relatives," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (gathered the Quraysh and) stood up and called out: "O Banu Ka'b bin Lu'ayy! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu 'Abd Manaf! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu Hashim! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Save your soul from the Fire. I do not possess anything for you from Allah except that I maintain the ties of kinship with you."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that during a journey of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a Bedouin came forward and said: "Tell me of a deed that will bring me near to Paradise and keep me far from Hell." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, establish prayer, pay zakat, and maintain ties of kinship."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty created the creation. When their creation was completed, the womb (rahm) stood up. Allah Almighty said: What is the matter? It said: This is the place for seeking Your protection from severing ties of kinship. Allah Almighty said: Are you not pleased that I will join the one who joins you, and I will cut off the one who cuts you off? The womb said: O Lord Almighty! Yes, indeed. Allah Almighty said: This has been established for you." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you wish, (for confirmation) recite this verse: «فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَنْ تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ» [سورہ محمد: 22] "Then (O hypocrites!) is it expected of you, if you are given authority, that you will cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship?"

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that he, while explaining the saying of Allah Almighty: «وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ» [سورہ الإسراء: 26] , said: Allah Almighty first commanded the most obligatory rights (i.e., the oneness of Allah and good conduct towards parents), and in the case of having wealth, He guided towards the best deed among actions, that "give the relative his right, and also to the needy and the traveler." And in the case of not having wealth, He taught that "if you turn away from them seeking mercy from your Lord (i.e., sustenance), then speak to them kindly," meaning, say to them that, insha’Allah, if any means become available, then you will cooperate with them. (Because) the statement of Allah Almighty: «وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ» [سورہ الإسراء: 27] "And do not keep your hand tied to your neck," means do not be so stingy that you give them nothing at all and avoid them. And «وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ الْبَسْطِ» "And do not stretch it out completely," means: do not do so that you give away all that you have, so that «فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَحْسُورًا» "then you sit down blamed and exhausted," meaning, the one who comes later finds nothing with you and blames you, and you remain regretful and sorrowful over what you have given.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! I have some relatives with whom I maintain ties, while they sever relations with me. I treat them well, and they treat me badly. They behave ignorantly towards me, yet I act with patience and forbearance. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), after hearing this, said: "If it is as you say, then you are putting dust in their mouths, meaning they themselves will be humiliated, and as long as you remain steadfast in your conduct, Allah’s help will continue to be with you."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:“Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: I am the Most Merciful (Rahman) and I have created the womb (rahm). It is narrated from Abu Anbas, may Allah have mercy on him, who says: I went to the land of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with them both, in Taif, and he related that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, folded his finger and gestured with it, and said: "The womb (rahm) is derived from the Most Merciful (Rahman). Whoever maintains it, Allah will maintain (connection with) him, and whoever severs it, the Most Merciful will cut him off from Himself.
