Hadith Number: 67
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There is no sin greater than severing ties of kinship and rebellion, for which Allah hastens the punishment in this world for its perpetrator, and along with that, keeps its punishment in the Hereafter as well."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who reciprocates equally is not the one who maintains the ties of kinship; rather, the one who truly maintains the ties of kinship is the one who, when relations are severed with him, still maintains the ties of kinship."

Narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a deed that will admit me to Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Although you have asked briefly, your question is meaningful, that is, you have encompassed a lengthy matter in it.”(Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:)“Free a soul, ransom a neck.”He said: Are these two not the same? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:“No, freeing a soul is that you set a slave free, and ransoming a neck is that you assist in the freedom of a slave.”(Then he said:)“Give someone a milch animal which is desirable, show kindness and compassion to a relative, and if you are not able to do this, then enjoin good and forbid evil, and if you are not able to do this, then restrain your tongue except for speaking good.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about those deeds which I used to do as acts of worship in the days of ignorance, such as maintaining ties of kinship, freeing slaves, and giving charity? Will I receive reward for them? Hakim says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You have accepted Islam along with your previous good deeds."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a suit of striped silk clothes and said (to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! If you were to buy this and wear it on Fridays and for receiving delegations (how good it would look)," upon this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! This is worn only by the one who has no share in the Hereafter." Later, similar suits were sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent one suit as a gift to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! You have sent this to me, even though I heard you say about it what you said." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I did not send it to you so that you wear it. My purpose in giving it as a gift was that you sell it (and benefit from its price), or give it to someone else." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave it as a gift to his polytheist brother from his mother's side.

Jubair bin Mut'im says that I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saying from the pulpit: Learn and know your genealogies, then maintain your kinship ties. By Allah! Sometimes there is a dispute or resentment between two men, but if he knows that there is a kinship between them, it will prevent him from severing relations.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Safeguard your lineage so that you may maintain ties of kinship, for no kinship, even if distant, remains distant from maintaining ties of kinship. And no relationship, however close, if it is not maintained, becomes distant. And every womb (relationship) will come forward on the Day of Resurrection and will testify for the one who maintained ties of kinship, and will testify against the one who severed ties of kinship.
