It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Two eloquent men came from the east during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Both of them stood up and spoke, then sat down. Then the orator of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him), stood up and spoke. The people were amazed at the speech of those two. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivered a sermon and said: "O people! Speak in your usual manner; drawing out words from words is only from Satan." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, some speech is magic."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that a man delivered a sermon before Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and spoke at great length, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Speaking too much in sermons is among the useless acts of Satan.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'n bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Gather together in your mosques. When a group has gathered, inform me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) first came to us and sat down. Then one of us spoke and said: "All praise is due to Allah, for whose praise there is no other purpose except His Essence, and there is no place to flee except to Him." At this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) became angry and left. We blamed each other and said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had come to us first (but after hearing our speaker, he got up and left). Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) went to someone else's mosque and sat there. We came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and spoke to him. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came with us and sat in his first seat or near it, then said: "All praise is due to Him who created whatever He wished, whenever He wished, and brought into existence whatever He wished afterwards. Indeed, many speeches are a kind of magic." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded us and taught us.

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that one night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became restless and his sleep was disturbed. He (peace be upon him) said: "If only some righteous man from among my companions would come and stand guard for me." Suddenly, we heard the sound of weapons, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "Who is it?" He replied: Sa'd. Then Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have come to stand guard for you. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) slept peacefully until we heard the sound of his snoring.

One of them said to the other: "Asbat," meaning "You hit the mark" (although it should be "Asabta"). It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that some people asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about soothsayers. He (peace be upon him) said: "They are nothing, and they have no reality." The people said: O Messenger of Allah! They sometimes say something that turns out to be true. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "That true statement is a word which the devil snatches (from the conversation of the angels), and he whispers it into the ears of his friends as a hen clucks, then the soothsayer mixes with it more than a hundred lies."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: It is enough for a man to be considered a liar that he narrates everything he hears.

The narrator says that, in my opinion, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also said: Is there not protection from lying for a Muslim in adopting indirect speech?
