Jurayj or Ibn Jurayj says that once I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), "I see you doing four things which I do not see anyone else doing except you." He asked, "What are those things?" I said, "I see you wearing shoes made of dyed leather; I see that you only perform istilam (touching or kissing) of the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, and do not perform istilam of any other corner; I see that you do not recite the talbiyah until you have placed your foot in the stirrup; and I see that you dye your beard." Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "As for wearing shoes made of dyed leather, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) himself wore such shoes, performed ablution while wearing them, and liked them. As for only kissing the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) performing istilam of only these two corners and not of any other corner. As for dyeing the beard, I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) dyeing his beard as well. And as for reciting the talbiyah and making the intention for ihram while mounted, I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when he placed his foot in the stirrup, sat upright on his mount, and when the mount stood straight with him, then he would recite the talbiyah."
