Chapter: On Those Who Do Not Pay Zakat on Camels, Cows, and Sheep
Hadith Number: 1656
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“Whoever owns camels and does not pay their due right, then on the Day of Resurrection they will come in great numbers and their owner will be made to sit on a flat plain, and they will trample him with their feet and hooves. And whoever owns cows and does not pay their due right, then on the Day of Resurrection they will come in great numbers and he will be made to sit on a flat plain, and the cows will gore him with their horns and trample him with their feet. And whoever owns goats and does not pay their due right, they too will come in great numbers on the Day of Resurrection, and their owner will be made to sit on a flat plain, and the goats will butt him with their horns and crush him with their hooves. On that day, none of them will be without horns or have broken horns. And whoever owns a treasure and does not pay its due right, that treasure will come on the Day of Resurrection in the form of a bald serpent with its mouth open, pursuing (its worldly owner). When it comes to him in the form of a serpent, he will flee, but it will call out, ‘Take your treasure which you used to hide!’ He will say, ‘I have no need of it.’ Then, when he sees that the serpent will not leave him, he will put his hand in its mouth, and it will chew him as a camel chews.”The narrator said: Abu az-Zubair said: We heard from Ubaid bin Umair, and he used to say this. Then we asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), and he narrated just as Ubaid bin Umair had said. And Abu az-Zubair said: I heard Ubaid bin Umair say that a man asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the right of a she-camel? He said:“To milk her at the water, to lend her bucket, to give her male for mating when asked (without payment), and to give her for riding in the way of Allah.”
