Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Abdullah, the son of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), came to him and said,“I fear that this year there will be fighting among the people and you may be prevented from reaching the Sacred Sanctuary. Would it not be better if you stayed this year and did not go for Hajj?”Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied,“The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also set out from Madinah, and the disbelievers of Quraysh came between him and the Sacred Sanctuary. So, if any obstacle comes before me as well, I will do what the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.”Then he recited this verse:“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example,”and said,“I have already made the intention for ‘Umrah.”After that, he set out, and when he reached the place of Bayda’, he said,“The matter of Hajj and ‘Umrah is the same; I make you witnesses that I have now made the intention for Hajj along with my ‘Umrah.”Thus, he reached Makkah and performed a single Tawaf for both.
