Musnad of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 9140
حدثنا سليمان بن داود ، انبانا إسماعيل يعني ابن جعفر ، قال: اخبرني شريك يعني ابن ابي نمر ، عن عطاء بن يسار ، عن ابي هريرة ، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " ليس المسكين الذي ترده التمرة والتمرتان، واللقمة واللقمتان، إن المسكين المتعفف" ، اقرءوا إن شئتم: لا يسالون الناس إلحافا سورة البقرة آية 273.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The needy is not the one who is turned away with one or two dates or one or two morsels; the real needy is the one who refrains from begging. If you wish, recite this verse: "They do not beg of people importunately."
حكم دارالسلام: حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي،خ: 4539، م: 1039
