(443) باب ذكر الأخبار المنصوصة والدالة على أن الوتر ليس بفرض
The chapter on explicit reports indicating that Witr is not obligatory
Hadith Number: 1069
ثنا ايوب بن إسحاق، نا ابو معمر، عن عبد الوارث بن سعيد، قال: سالت ابا حنيفة، او سئل ابو حنيفة، عن الوتر، فقال:" فريضة، فقلت: او فقيل له: فكم الفرض؟ قال: خمس صلوات، فقيل له: فما تقول في الوتر؟ قال: فريضة، فقلت او فقيل له: انت لا تحسن الحساب"
Abdul Warith bin Saeed narrates that I asked Imam Abu Hanifa, or Imam Abu Hanifa was asked, about Witr. He replied that Witr is obligatory (fard). So I said, or it was said to him, how many obligatory prayers are there? He replied that there are five prayers. Then it was said to him, so what do you say about Witr? He replied that it is obligatory (fard). So I said, or it was said to him, that you do not know how to count.
