It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), "When do you perform Witr?" He replied, "I perform Witr and then sleep." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have chosen the cautious way." And he asked Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), "When do you perform Witr?" He replied, "I sleep, then (after waking up) I pray at night and also perform Witr." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have chosen my way." Muhammad bin Yahya narrated in the story of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) these words: "You do the work of a strong man."
