Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that when Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) found out that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed his women to undo their hair braids for the ghusl of janabah, she said that she was astonished at Ibn Amr’s command. He has put them into hardship; why does he not just order them to shave their heads? I and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl from a single vessel, and we would begin (taking water for ghusl) together from it. I would not pour more than three handfuls or (the narrator said) three scoops of water on my head. This is the narration of Abdul Warith. In the narration of Ibn Ulayyah, the words“we would begin together from it”are not present. He said these words: I would not pour more than three times on my head.
