Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When he entered the prayer, he said «‏‏‏‏اللهُ أَكْبَرُ» ‏‏‏‏ and raised his hands. And when he intended to bow (ruku‘), he raised his hands, and when he raised his head from ruku‘, he raised his hands. In prostration, he placed both his hands (on the ground) and kept his arms away from his sides, and spread his left thigh, and pointed with his index finger, that is, while sitting in Tashahhud. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that his statement "he spread his left thigh" means that he spread his left thigh for his right thigh. My father spread his left thigh so that he could place his right thigh over his left thigh. As is in the narration of Adam bin Abi Iyas, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his right thigh over his left thigh.
