Virtue of Listening to Quran and Requesting Recitation for Reflection and Weeping
Hadith Number: 463
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“Recite the Qur’an to me.”I said,“What should I recite to you when the Qur’an has been revealed to you?”The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,“I desire to hear it from someone else.”The narrator stated that I recited Surah An-Nisa, and when I reached the verse: ‘How then will it be when We bring from every nation a witness and We bring you as a witness against these people’ (), the Noble Prophet said,“Stop.”(The Messenger of Allah said ‘Kuff’ or ‘Amsik’—the narrator is in doubt.) I saw that tears were flowing from the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). (‘Kuff’ and ‘Amsik’ both mean the same, i.e., stop.) In this verse, there is mention of the Day of Judgment when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) will be presented as a witness over his Ummah.
