Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Umair narrated regarding Abu Al-Hayyaj that Hajjaj summoned him and said, "Show me the letter that Umar wrote to Ammar about Talaa." So Abu Al-Hayyaj left in a state of sadness, and during this time, Abu Al-Hayyaj met Hazrat Sha'bi, who asked Abu Al-Hayyaj the reason for his sadness. Thus, he told Sha'bi everything that Hajjaj had said to him. Upon this, Hazrat Sha'bi said to Abu Al-Hayyaj, "Bring a pen, inkpot, and paper. By Allah! I have heard this letter from your father only once." So Hazrat Sha'bi dictated to Abu Al-Hayyaj: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Allah's servant, the Commander of the Faithful, Umar, to Ammar bin Yasir. To proceed: A drink was brought to me from the direction of Syria, so I inquired about how it is made. People informed me that they cook it until two-thirds of it evaporates and one-third remains. Then, when this process is done to it, its harm and corruption are removed, its intoxicating effect dissipates, its unlawful part goes away, and its lawful part remains." Hazrat Abdullah says... "In my opinion, you also said: 'And its best part remains.' ... So when this letter of mine reaches you, command the people of your region to expand their drinks with this beverage. And peace."
