Silence and pause before saying the takbir

٢٨٦٥ - حدثنا ابو بكر قال: نا حفص عن (عمرو) (١) عن الحسن قال: كان لرسول الله ﷺ ثلاث سكتات (سكتة) (٢) إذا افتتح التكبير حتى يقول الحمد، وإذا فرغ من الحمد حتى يقرا السووة، وإذا فرغ من السورة حتى (يركع) (٣) (٤).

(٣) في [هـ]: (ركع).
(٤) مرسل.
Hasan narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would observe silence three times during the prayer: after saying the opening takbir until beginning Surah Al-Fatihah, after reciting Surah Al-Fatihah before starting another surah, and after completing the surah before saying the takbir for bowing (ruku).
