Abdul Wahid bin Ayman narrates from his father: I went to the service of Sayyida Aisha, and I said to her: "O Mother of the Believers! I was with Utbah bin Abu Lahab (that is, I was his slave), his son and his wife sold me and imposed the condition of wala (allegiance). So will I be considered the freed slave of someone?" She replied: "O my son! Barirah came to me, she had made a contract of manumission. She said: 'Buy me.' I said: 'Alright.' She said: 'My owners will not sell me until they impose the condition of wala.' So I said: 'Then I have no need of you.' When the Prophet (peace be upon him) heard this or was informed of it, he asked: 'What is Barirah saying?' I told him about it, so the Prophet said: 'Buy her and set her free, and let them be as they are, let them impose whatever conditions [1] they wish.' (Sayyida Aisha says) So I bought her and set her free, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The right of wala belongs to the one who sets free, even if (the other party) imposes a hundred conditions.'"
