The sons of Zayd bin Aslam, Abdur Rahman and Abdullah, narrate from their father: He participated in a battle, and he heard a person calling out loudly to another: "O Saraq, O Saraq!" So Zayd bin Aslam called him and inquired: What is meant by Saraq? He replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me this name. I bought a she-camel from a Bedouin, then I hid from him, and I lost the price of the she-camel as well. The Bedouin was searching for me, so people told him: "Go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and inform him about this." The man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! A man bought a she-camel from me and then hid from me; I could not find him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Search for him." The narrator states: That man found me and brought me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is the person who bought the she-camel from me and hid from me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pay him the price." So I said: "O Messenger of Allah! It has been lost from me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Saraq!" Then he said to the Bedouin: "Go, sell him in the market and take the price of your she-camel." So the Bedouin made me stand in the market, and when my price was set, he asked the buyer: "What will you do with him?" He replied: "I will set him free." So that Bedouin set me free.
